Trauma Therapy

You've been trying to get over it for a long time. Maybe you've told yourself you should be past it by now. But here you are, at the end of another hard day, and the past is still right there with you. That's not a character flaw. That's what unprocessed trauma does. And it makes sense that you're tired of it.

If any of this sounds familiar, you're in the right place

  • You feel disconnected from yourself, like you're watching your own life from a distance

  • Your relationships keep hitting the same wall, no matter how much you want things to be different

  • You shut down, or you blow up, and either way you're left wondering why you can't just react normally

  • You've tried other types of therapy, or coping skills, and you got some relief but nothing actually changed at the root

  • There's a part of you that feels like too much, or not enough, or both

Trauma doesn't always come from one dramatic event. For many of the clients I work with, it built up slowly, through years of feeling unseen, misunderstood, or like they had to make themselves smaller to be loved. If that resonates, this kind of work was made for what you're carrying.

What can actually shift

Healing from trauma doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It means your past stops running your present. Over time, clients find that the reactions that used to feel automatic start to make sense, and with that understanding comes something they didn't expect: choice.

Some of what clients notice as the work deepens:

  • Relationships feel less like something to survive and more like something they can actually be present in

  • The inner critic gets quieter, not because it's been suppressed but because it's finally been heard

  • They stop feeling like they're performing being okay and start actually feeling it

This is not a quick fix. But it is the kind of change that lasts.

How I work with trauma

I use Internal Family Systems, or IFS, as the foundation for trauma work. IFS is built on the idea that you are not broken. The parts of you that feel reactive, shut down, ashamed, or stuck have been working hard to protect you. We get to know those parts with curiosity instead of judgment, and we explore what they've been carrying and where that weight came from.

This is not about reliving everything you've been through. It's about creating enough safety inside yourself that the past no longer needs to stay on guard. Sessions follow your pace. There is no pressure to go somewhere you aren't ready to go.

I've been doing this work for over 14 years, including in settings most therapists never see, like running the crisis unit at Georgia's largest women's prison and working in eating disorder treatment. That background shapes how I show up: grounded, direct, and genuinely unshakable.

What to expect when you start

Starting therapy is a big step, and I want it to feel as straightforward as possible. Here is what the process looks like:

  • We start with a free 15-minute phone call to talk about what's bringing you in and make sure we're a good fit

  • If we move forward, you'll complete a few intake forms through the secure client portal before your first session

  • Your first session is a chance to share your story at whatever depth feels right, no pressure to have it figured out

  • Most clients start weekly, then shift to every other week as things settle

Everything happens virtually, so you can work with me from anywhere in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, or South Carolina.

Who this is a good fit for

I work with adults 18 and up who are ready to look at what's underneath the surface, not just manage it. You don't need to have your story perfectly organized before reaching out. You don't need to be in crisis either. You just need to be at the point where you're ready to try something that actually gets to the root.

This space is open to everyone, regardless of background or identity.

Questions people usually ask before reaching out

What if I've already tried therapy and it didn't really work?

A lot of clients come to me after trying approaches that helped for a while but didn't stick. IFS works differently from CBT or short-term therapy. Instead of building skills to manage what you're feeling, we work to understand why those feelings are there in the first place. If past therapy felt like it only touched the surface, this tends to feel different.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened to me?

No. You share what you're ready to share. We follow your lead and go at a pace that actually feels okay for you, not just tolerable.

How long does this take?

There is no single answer to that. It depends on what you're working through and how things unfold for you specifically. What I can tell you is that this is deep work, and the changes that come from it tend to be lasting. We check in regularly and adjust as we go.

Ready to reach out?

It's okay if you're not completely sure yet. Most people feel some hesitation before they contact a therapist, and that's normal. When you're ready, I'm here.
